Windsurfing: Felixstowe Dip Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: F2-3 Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 8.2 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 5.4 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Session 6 on foil at the Dip, was another no wind day 2/3 windless days in
the 6 x attempts. As foiling is mainly done in light winds, I fully expect
these disappointments as forecast was light. What looked like a sea breeze
kicked in and Swainey had a couple of flights. Went to rig 9.2 but he said
I would be OK on 8.5, but by the time I went on the water at 3.30 the wind
died.
Colesy launched same time and in the 8 or so knots with a 10M Challenger
sail flew a couple of miles down to the docks, whilst me and Swainey never
lifted. I came very close a couple times.
When DC came back I asked him to sail my kit which is the RRD foil / 147 SB
147 Ultrasonic slalom bd and the rotational 8.5 Goya mark.
Th wind was even lighter now 5-6 kts and yep he pumped away from the beach
and went straight into flight!
Its great because at least I know the kit is good and he said no
adjustments required. He found it light and easier to fly than his kit.
As am much heavier - its skill and more power I need.
It was my first foil on the sea and it went OK - launch was easy - also
landing, but it was low tide and flattish water near the beach - but bigger
lumps further out.
Had a good look at DC Challenger foil sail and the bottom cut is very low,
with very little twist and not so floppy leach . As I have a 9.5 old style
Severne long board which looks very similar - might have to drag that out
in 8kts - just to see.
Interesting day. Switched to my seat harness after playing with the waist
type. Not sure which to use. Waist was easier to get in / out and I can set
the boom much higher for comfort, but the seat allowed me to lean back and
take the load of my hands, so not sure yet.
